Summer, a burning temperature scorches the Taipei basin, where all the cars and passersby move like boiling streams: those which flow underground, run through the bridges, bottled in the drinks shop, and so on. She once heard that one could feel there’s a burning fire inside a pregnant womb, maybe this is how it feels.
A tender group of mountains is the arms, a rigorous basin land is the womb, the amniotic fluid floods, but her womb remains barren.
As barren as it has been for the past 23 years.
Her small chamber is wallpapered with men’s portraits: sketches of an eagle-like pair of eyes, posters collages of someone’s chest, a V-shape that the tabloid reporter blabbed over an article. Sometimes the pornography film of Jaochih Wei is screened in her dreams, accompanied by songs of cool hues. The songs go sing like “I pass by the East Gate, the waiting bud has never bloomed yet.”
O Summer, when everything fumes and soon decays in steams. There once were thousands of hundreds of maiden’s wombs, age ‘bout 16, sitting inside classrooms and agonizing over emptiness and desire. She lays in the sultry chamber, holding a big banana pillow, when suddenly, the kind of 16-year-old agony all comes back.
- "A Barren Land"
The text above was written on the 9th July this year and posted on my personal Facebook page. And this is also my first time visualizing written words.
My great gratitude to friends of all sorts of area; thank you all for putting the effort with me and cheering me up. My very first indie film is built on bits and pieces of kindness.
“Those wombs which come and go, filled up temporarily but become empty soon, might as well have been so fresh and pink and sitting in the classrooms, longing for an open arm and a real embrace. Nonetheless, like the Taipei basin land, a forever hollow stays. The basin sweltering as ever, and the womb barren as the years fare."
